Will There Be a 4th Bill & Ted Movie? Here’s What We Know
The Wyld Stallyns may not be done rocking just yet. In a recent interview on The Sarah O’Connell Show, actor Alex Winter—who plays Bill S. Preston, Esq.—confirmed that a fourth Bill & Ted movie is being written, sparking excitement among longtime fans of the cult sci-fi comedy franchise.
Winter revealed that the original writing duo, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, are “tinkering with a really great idea” for the next chapter. While the project hasn’t officially been greenlit, the creative team is committed to crafting a story that’s worthy of the franchise’s legacy. “We never want to do them unless they’re great,” Winter said, emphasizing that the films have always been made from a place of love—not commercial ambition.
The Bill & Ted series began in 1989 with Excellent Adventure, followed by Bogus Journey in 1991, and returned nearly three decades later with Face the Music in 2020. The third film reunited Winter and Keanu Reeves as the lovable slackers tasked with saving the universe through music. Despite releasing during the pandemic, Face the Music earned positive reviews and performed well on digital platforms, though its theatrical box office numbers were modest.
Winter hinted that the new concept is “kind of obvious” and “really great,” though he stopped short of revealing plot details. He also acknowledged that getting the film made could take time, especially given the franchise’s history of long gaps between installments. Still, the enthusiasm from the cast and creators suggests that Bill & Ted 4 is more than just a pipe dream—it’s a sincere possibility.
Whether the next adventure involves more time travel, musical destiny, or a new generation of characters, one thing’s clear: the spirit of Bill and Ted lives on. And as always, their message remains timeless—be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.
