OMG! What a Bloody MESS!
Absolutely loved this movie, Evil Dead Rise reached horror god level with FX, Blood & Gore. If you are squeamish or faint of heart, this movie probably is not for you! It stayed true to the original with small humor, silliness & the original story. Evil Dead Rise also is a prequel to the original and all others that follow. I cannot wait till the new ones come out. Highly recommend #evildeadrise

Good movie. Better than I expected

Bloody, gory fun
I’ll admit, I’m biased: I have yet to see an Evil Dead movie I didn’t like, although the reasons for that vary from film to film. This is higher-budget than any of the Sam Raimi classics, and faster-paced than the 2013 Evil Dead, but seems to pack as much blood and gore into its 96 minutes as any of the others. The story is simple, and follows the same outline as the other Evil Deads. Someone finds the forbidden book, someone intones the unholy incantation and summons the ancient demons, and Bad Things happen to the people in the vicinity. The variety comes from finding out how many different bloody circumstances you can hang on the same framework.Aside from the prologue (which pays tribute to Wuthering Heights and it’s ghost-story narrative frame), the action takes place in a nearly-abandoned and soon-to-be-demolished apartment building. Guitar technician Beth, having just been hit with some life-changing news, visits her sister Ellie and Ellie’s three kids, in an apartment complex that looks like it should have been condemned a decade ago. Although they clearly share a familial bond, the two sisters do not get along well. Ellie repeatedly refers to Beth as a “Groupie”, disrespecting her actual job, and Beth has been so absent from Ellie’s life that she learns of her separation from her husband months after the fact.A mild earthquake reveals a crack in the foundation of the building, uncovering a vault where the Necronomicon—err, the “Naturom Demonto”—has been hidden. One of the teen children opens it and plays the accompanying vinyl recording, and the spirits arise. Their first victim is Ellie, who becomes possessed while in the elevator, and things go downhill from there, leading to a climax in the parking garage between the survivors and a hideous, hybrid monster. In between, this movie pours on the red sauce, and displays other body horror elements that are a trademark of the franchise. Alyssa Sutherland is creepy as the possessed mother, and Lily Sullivan is convincingly bad-ass as her survive-at-all-costs sister. Even the young actors do well in this movie, which is always dicey, especially in a movie as intense as this. The pacing is perfect and the gore effects are revolting. This isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve read this far, you know what kind of movie it aims to be, and I am pleased to report it hits its target dead center.

Dark. Literally.
I wasn’t much of a fan of the original /Evil Dead/, so I didn’t expect much.In a sense, this is a perfectly fine sequel: the evil reappears, people die, what more could you ask for? Lots of blood at some points too.Well, what I could ask for is more light so I could actually /see/ the special/makeup effects which are clearly there but not clearly seeable. All in all, I found this more annoying than entertaining.

A Frightening Experience, But Lacks the Magic of a Masterpiece
“Evil Dead Rise,” the latest entry in the iconic horror franchise, brings a new chapter of terror and mayhem. While it succeeds in delivering scares and entertainment, it falls short of being a timeless classic. Here’s a closer look:A Fresh Take: This installment moves away from the traditional cabin-in-the-woods setting, offering a fresh perspective on the series. The change in setting brings a new dynamic but may also alienate some hardcore fans of the original films.Scary Moments: “Evil Dead Rise” doesn’t hold back on the frights. The signature gruesome visuals and horrifying scenes are present, offering a thrilling experience for horror enthusiasts.Performance and Characters: The cast does a commendable job in portraying the terror and struggle against the evil forces. While the characters may not be as memorable as those in the original films, they serve the story well.Nods to the Original: Fans of the original “Evil Dead” films will find familiar elements, including the iconic Book of the Dead and references to previous installments. These connections add a layer of enjoyment for longtime followers.Misses the Masterpiece Mark: Despite its strengths, “Evil Dead Rise” doesn’t quite reach the heights of a masterpiece. While entertaining and scary, it lacks the depth, innovation, and enduring appeal that would place it among the genre’s greats.A One-Time Watch?: The film offers a solid horror experience, but it might not have the replay value of other entries in the series. It’s a movie worth watching for fans and newcomers alike, but it may not demand repeated viewings.Overall Verdict: “Evil Dead Rise” is a welcome addition to the franchise, delivering the scares and gore that fans expect. However, it doesn’t quite capture the magic that made the original films stand out. It’s a fun and frightening watch, but not a transcendent horror experience. If you’re a fan of the “Evil Dead” series or just looking for a good scare, “Evil Dead Rise” is worth a watch. Just don’t expect it to redefine the genre or leave a lasting legacy like its predecessors. It’s a bloody good time but falls short of being a timeless classic.

Not as groovy, but still fun
Yes. But also no? Loved this and exploring evil dead beyond the camp. But I love camp. I am torn. I mean there’s a pretty sick wood chipper scene that’s filled some silliness. But, I just….want a chainsaw slammed onto a chopped off hand nub that inexplicably continues to work. I’m going to be brave and say what I feel. Who are you to judge me? AND IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK TO HAVE THE SHOTGUN IN THE FILM SAY S-MART ON IT COME ON.

A Gruesome, Terrifying Evolution of the Evil Dead Franchise
Evil Dead Rise injects fresh nightmarish energy into the classic Evil Dead formula, shifting the setting from a remote cabin to an urban apartment complex—but keeping the relentless terror and gory spectacle intact. Directed by Lee Cronin, the film presents an intense, claustrophobic horror experience packed with blood-soaked brutality and unrelenting suspense.Pros:✅ New Setting, Same Terror: The shift from the woods to an urban apartment brings a fresh twist while maintaining the Evil Dead series’ intensity. ✅ Unforgiving Gore: Delivers grisly, practical effects that are shocking and visceral, living up to the franchise’s reputation. ✅ Strong Performances: Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland anchor the film with emotionally gripping and terrifying portrayals. ✅ Fast-Paced Storytelling: The film doesn’t waste time—once the horror begins, it doesn’t let up.Cons:⚠ Less Dark Comedy: While the franchise is known for mixing horror with twisted humor, Evil Dead Rise leans more into pure terror, which may feel tonally different for longtime fans. ⚠ Predictable Tropes: Some story beats follow familiar horror conventions, though executed effectively. For fans of relentless, blood-drenched horror, Evil Dead Rise delivers a terrifying experience, proving that the Necronomicon’s curse is far from over.
