Is There Going to Be Tangled 3? Here’s What We Know So Far

Disney’s Tangled captured hearts worldwide when it debuted in 2010, introducing audiences to the spirited Rapunzel and charming Flynn Rider. Since then, fans have eagerly speculated about a potential Tangled 3, hoping for another magical journey into the kingdom of Corona. What Happened After the Original Tangled?

Following the success of Tangled, Disney released the short film Tangled Ever After in 2012, which showcased Rapunzel and Flynn’s wedding day. This was followed by the animated series Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure (2017–2020), which expanded the lore, introduced new characters, and explored Rapunzel’s life post-tower. While these additions enriched the universe, they didn’t confirm a full-length sequel.

Tangled 3 vs. Live-Action Remake

Rather than continuing the animated storyline, Disney has been developing a live-action remake of Tangled, part of its broader strategy to reimagine classic titles. The project had director Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) attached, with a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder). However, recent reports confirm that the remake has been put on pause following the underwhelming reception of Disney’s Snow White live-action adaptation.

This delay has cast uncertainty over Tangled’s future—both in live-action and animation. While rumors swirled about casting choices like Avantika Vandanapu as Rapunzel, Disney has not confirmed any details. The studio appears to be reassessing its live-action strategy amid criticism over CGI quality, casting decisions, and audience fatigue.

Will Tangled 3 Ever Happen?

Although Tangled 3 isn’t currently in development, Disney’s history of revisiting successful franchises leaves room for hope. With fan interest still strong and the original film’s legacy enduring, a sequel could be revived if the timing and creative direction align.
