Jared Leto as The Joker…I mean Dracula…I mean Morbius
Another Spider-Man villain getting their own movie without Spider-Man in it? Sure why not?!! In all seriousness I really was waiting for this movie to come out because I do somewhat like the Venom movies and I thought it was going to be something of the same caliber. I knew that it wasn’t going to be good so I didn’t have high expectations for it, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ve only known Morbius the Living Vampire from the 90’s Spider-Man cartoon so I don’t know how faithful this movie was to the comics, but as it’s own thing it was pretty ok. The acting was decent and I thought that Jared Leto did a better job as Michael Morbius than he did as the Joker in Suicide Squad. But really Matt Smith was the one who stole the show when his character became a vampire! I was surprised that Tyrese Gibson was in this, although it was a shame that he didn’t do much in the movie since he played one of my favorite characters in the Bayformers movies, and no I never watched any of the Fast and Furious movies so don’t ask. The special effects where pretty good in my opinion, especially when they added these weird trippy color waves when the vampires move super fast or when Morbius is flying. Speaking of which, one of my pet peeves about the movie is that it’s never explained how Morbius is able to fly. From the acid trippy scene in the subway I’m guessing he can fly using sound waves or vibrations? Another problem I have with the movie is that the fights are very erratic with a lot of shakey camera work, fast movement, and extreme closeups that it can get irritating and nauseating. Also I can’t tell if the movie takes place in the same universe as the Venom movies, I mean there was a mention of some guy in San Francisco with a similar MO of eating people and the detectives and police don’t seem to be all that fazed at Morbius being a vampiric monstrosity, but the two end credits scenes just add more to the confusion. Overall this was an ok movie, it’s not one of the best superhero movies out there but it’s not one of the worst. But I will give the movie credit, for being PG-13, it does have more blood in it than the two Venom movies combined.P.s. I would’ve titled the review Marvel’s “Dracula” if Count Dracula wasn’t already a character in the Marvel universe. I hope we get to see him in the MCU Blade movie!

Wow, This Is Almost Certainly Sony’s Worst “Spiderverse” Film To Date!
I had very high hopes and expectations related to this movie for a number of reasons.First of all, I –as opposed to many folks, it seems– really like Jared Leto’s performances as The Joker (‘Suicide Squad’ & ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’). Leto, at least by my estimation, provided the DCU audience with a more modern, more believable, character.Leto also managed to at least be in an on-screen, live action, intimate, and romantic relationship with Margot Robbie’s ‘Harley Quinn’. No other Joker character has pulled that off –at least so far.I also like Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Batman’s long-time #1 adversary (in Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’) quite a lot –except for the muffled slurping sound he keeps making while delivering his lines. However, I really don’t like Joaquin Phoenix as an actor at all. He over-acts and, well, is just downright creepy –both on & off screen. So if I were allowed to choose The Joker going forward in the DCU Leto would be my pick.As far as the Morbius character goes, I think that it could have served the World of Marvel well as an entry point to their more horror-based properties, such as Mephisto, Blade, and others.Alas, it was not to be. This movie, to quote The Grinch, ‘Stink, stank, stunk!’A drearier, darker, more muddied & washed-out, waste-of-CGI, mess of bad filming choices I have never seen. The faces of the fully ‘vamped-out’ versions of Morbius and his former friend and self-adopted brother, Loxias Crown, were kind of silly, and there are so many gaping holes in the plot that the film’s progression, as a whole, winds up having a lot in common with a piece of Swiss cheese. For example, Morbius’ life-long friend/brother, Loxias, seems to inexplicably change from a decent, caring, person to a soul-less, psychotic, mass murderer almost-overnight. No explanation was really given for why this change took place so quickly. And what’s up with all the fuzzy, amorphous, faint, moving clouds around the two vamps when they are jumping or flying around? Is that supposed to represent their ‘bat-sense’ at work? If so, it defies all laws of physics, as it should be shown in all cases as a spherical-shaped wavefront progressing and expanding smoothly outward from their mouths. In summary, the filmmaking was flat-out terrible, the plot wandered around and often made no sense, the actor’s talents were largely wasted, and this film was a HUGE disappointment for me.And, I would also wager that I am not alone in my analysis of this movie, and that there are two chances of us ever seeing a ‘Morbius’ sequel: Slim and None.

Morbius 2 when?!?!
I love Jared Leto. Great in this. A few jump cuts that were probably edits to cut film time that were obnoxious, but the story is solid. Give this movie a chance and you won’t regret it. WE NEED A MORBIUS 2!!!
