The emotional aftermath of a high-school shooting in bleak drama "Eric LaRue" feels so authentic that instead of neat conclusions it has flawed characters talking past each other in confusion, frustration, & misery - authentic, but a hard watch. With titular son Nation Sage Henriksen jailed for three senseless killings, blue-collar US mid-west parents Judy Greer & Alexander Skarsgård live on together yet apart - 'helped' by their pushy & less than competent churches (represented by the likes of Paul Sparks (excellent), Tracy Letts, & Alison Pill). Brett Neveu's screenplay is original, as emphasised by Michael Shannon's fresh debut direction... but it IS a hard watch.
