Abbas

Mirza Abbas Ali (born May 21, 1975), known professionally as Abbas, is an Indian actor and motivational speaker who became a major heartthrob in South Indian cinema during the late 1990s. Born in Howrah, West Bengal, and raised in Bangalore, he began his career as a fashion model after winning "Face of 94." He made a spectacular acting debut in the Tamil film Kadhal Desam (1996), which turned him into an overnight sensation across South India. Throughout the early 2000s, he starred in several high-profile films, including Padayappa, Kandukondain Kandukondain (opposite Aishwarya Rai), and Minnale. Despite his early success, a series of commercial failures and a shift toward supporting roles led to a decline in his career. In 2015, feeling disillusioned with the industry, he quit acting and relocated to New Zealand with his family. There, he worked various jobs—including as a mechanic, construction worker, and taxi driver—to support his household before finding success as a motivational speaker. After an 11-year hiatus, Abbas officially returned to India in 2023 and is currently making a highly anticipated comeback to Tamil cinema. He is set to star in the 2026 comedy-romance film Happy Raj, alongside G. V. Prakash Kumar and Sri Gouri Priya. In his personal life, he has been married to fashion designer Erum Ali since 1997, and the couple has two children, a daughter named Emira and a son named Aymaan. His return to the screen has sparked significant nostalgia among fans of the "chocolate hero" era of the 90s.
