Aja Naomi King is an American actress known for her roles in both film and television. Born on January 11, 1985, in Los Angeles, California, she began her acting career after earning a B.F.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and an M.F.A. from Yale University's School of Drama.King's breakout role came in 2014 when she was cast as Michaela Pratt, a pre-law student, in the hit ABC legal thriller series How to Get Away with Murder. Her performance on the show earned her a NAACP Image Award nomination and made her a recognizable face in television. The series, produced by Shonda Rhimes, ran for six seasons, from 2014 to 2020.In film, King gained critical attention for her role in Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation (2016), where she played the female lead, Nat Turner's wife Cherry.
