Alexander Rae "Alec" Baldwin III (born April 3, 1958) is a highly prolific American actor, film producer, comedian, and television personality, recognized for his versatility in both dramatic and comedic roles. The eldest and most well-known of the "Baldwin brothers" acting family, he began his career in the early 1980s, gaining early notice on the daytime soap opera The Doctors and the nighttime drama Knots Landing.Baldwin achieved widespread stardom in the late 1980s and early 1990s with films like Tim Burton's Beetlejuice (1988), Jonathan Demme's Married to the Mob (1988), and Mike Nichols' Working Girl (1988). His portrayal of Jack Ryan in The Hunt for Red October (1990) further cemented his leading man status. Throughout his career, he has appeared in a diverse range of films, including Glengarry Glen Ross (1992), Malice (1993), The Edge (1997), The Departed (2006), It's Complicated (2009), Blue Jasmine (2013), and the Mission: Impossible franchise (Rogue Nation and Fallout). He also voiced the titular character in The Boss Baby animated films.On television, Baldwin is most widely celebrated for his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning role as the charismatic and often ruthless network executive Jack Donaghy on the critically acclaimed NBC sitcom 30 Rock (2006-2013). He is also known for his record-setting 17 times as host of Saturday Night Live, where his impression of Donald Trump earned him another Emmy Award.Beyond his acting, Baldwin has also been involved in producing, and has had a notable stage career, including a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Stanley Kowalski in a 1992 Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire.However, Baldwin's career has also been marked by controversies, most notably the tragic 2021 Rust shooting incident where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was accidentally killed when a prop gun Baldwin was holding discharged. Legal proceedings and media attention followed this incident, which led to a halt in production for the film Rust, where Baldwin stars as Harland Rust and also serves as a producer. Production on Rust later resumed and the film premiered in 2024.
