Alexander Fischerkoesen

Alexander Fischerkoesen (born April 16, 1968, in Bad Godesberg, Germany) is an acclaimed German cinematographer and the grandson of pioneering animator Hans Fischerkoesen . He discovered his passion for visual storytelling early—starting photography at age 10—and by 16 had decided on a career in cinematography . After working in film labs and as a lighting technician, he made his feature debut as Director of Photography in 1999 with Planet Alex and has since worked on around 80 feature films and TV productions. Renowned for his moody palette—favoring dawn/dusk light, deep shadows, atmospheric haze, and strobe effects—he crafts evocative, texture-rich visuals that enhance narrative tone. His work has earned multiple awards, including the 2020 Deutsche Akademie für Fernsehen award for Play, two Adolf Grimme Prizes, a Deutscher Fernsehpreis, and nominations for the Deutscher Kamerapreis. Based in Munich, he lives with his wife and two children, continuing his collaboration as a trusted visual partner to directors and actors alike.
