Alexander Ally Karim, born on May 26, 1976, in Uppsala, Sweden, is a distinguished Swedish actor and writer with a career that bridges both Scandinavian and international productions. Born Ally Kimbugwe Karim to Ugandan refugee parents who sought asylum in Sweden in 1975, he grew up with two brothers, Othman "Osmond" Karim and Baker Karim, both of whom are also directors. After high school, Alexander followed his brothers to the United States, studying acting at City College in Los Angeles and working at The Hudson Theater. In 2000, he returned to Sweden to pursue a career in film.Karim has gained significant recognition for his diverse roles across film and television. His notable performances include Frank Nordling in the Viaplay/TV3 series "The Lawyer" (Advokaten), which earned him a Kristallen nomination for Best Actor in 2018. He is also known for his role as Ihab Rashid in FX's "Tyrant" (2014-2016) and as Dr. Sigur Johanson in the ecological thriller "The Swarm" (2023). More recently, Karim appeared as Ravi in Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II" (2024) and has a role in "Off Track 2" (2025). His filmography further includes works such as "Zero Dark Thirty" (2012), "Dying of the Light" (2014), and "The Wheel of Time" (2021-2023).Beyond acting, Karim is also a writer.
