Alexander Scheer

Alexander Scheer (born June 1, 1976, in East Berlin) is a distinguished German actor and musician, acclaimed for his transformative performances across film, television, and theater. Often referred to as "the German chameleon," he is celebrated for his ability to embody a wide array of characters, including iconic figures such as Keith Richards, Andy Warhol, David Bowie, and Friedrich Nietzsche. His versatility and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous accolades, including two German Film Awards and a Bavarian Film Award. Scheer's acting journey began in the late 1990s with roles in independent films and commercials. His breakthrough came with the film Sonnenallee (1999), which led to a decade-long tenure at the renowned Volksbühne Berlin, one of Europe's most influential theaters. Under the direction of Frank Castorf, he honed his craft and was named "Actor of the Year" in 2009 by the German theater magazine Theater heute.. In addition to his theater work, Scheer has made significant contributions to film and television. He portrayed the East German singer-songwriter Gerhard Gundermann in the biographical film Gundermann (2018), a role that earned him the German Film Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. He also starred as David Bowie in the series Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo (2021) and as Andy Warhol in Enfant Terrible (2020). Beyond acting, Scheer is a skilled musician. He has portrayed Keith Richards in Eight Miles High (2007), for which he formed the band "The Rockboys" to perform live concerts. He has also been involved with bands such as Der Internationale Wettbewerb and Gruppe Pegel, and toured Europe as a percussionist with The Whitest Boy Alive in 2009.
