Alicia Vikander is an acclaimed Swedish actress, producer, and former ballet dancer who has established herself as one of Hollywood's most versatile international stars. Born in Gothenburg in 1988, Vikander initially trained intensely at the Royal Swedish Ballet in Stockholm before turning her full focus to acting after sustaining injuries, beginning her professional career in Swedish short films and the popular drama series Andra Avenyn. Her breakout feature film role came in the Swedish drama Pure (2010), for which she won the Guldbagge Award for Best Actress. She gained international recognition in 2012 with key roles in the Danish film A Royal Affair and the English-language debut Anna Karenina. Vikander’s career reached a critical peak in 2015 with dual acclaimed roles: she received a Golden Globe and BAFTA nomination for playing the humanoid robot Ava in the sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, and she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of artist Gerda Wegener in the biographical drama The Danish Girl. Since then, she has taken on major roles in blockbusters like Jason Bourne (2016) and as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider (2018), while also producing through her company Vikarious. She married German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender in 2017.
