Alyona Doletskaya

Alyona Stanislavovna Doletskaya, born on January 10, 1955, in Moscow, is a prominent Russian journalist, translator, and media consultant best known as the founding Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Russia. The daughter of two surgeons, she graduated from the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University, where she later defended a dissertation on contemporary rhetoric. Her early career was rooted in academia and literature; she published several translations of works by renowned authors such as William Faulkner and Ray Bradbury and conducted doctoral research at Oxford University. In the early 1990s, she transitioned into media and public relations, working as a producer for European television channels and as a consultant for the diamond corporation De Beers before becoming the Public Relations Director for the British Council in Russia, where she managed high-profile cultural exhibitions. In 1998, Doletskaya was appointed to lead the launch of Vogue Russia, a role she held for thirteen years, during which she established the magazine as the country's leading fashion authority. Her editorial style and chic, minimal aesthetic earned her a reputation as the "Russian Anna Wintour," and at various points, she was even rumored as a potential successor to the American Vogue editorship. After resigning from Vogue in 2010, she launched the Russian and German editions of Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, serving as Editor-in-Chief until 2017. Beyond her magazine career, she has hosted television programs on the Dozhd channel, such as Evening with Doletskaya, and has authored several bestselling books, including Not Life, But a Fairy Tale and a series of culinary titles like Morning: 50 Breakfasts. Today, she continues to work as a creative consultant and serves as a trustee for charitable organizations, including the WWF and the Vera Hospice Charity Fund.
