André Holland

André Holland is an American actor, director, and producer. He was born on December 28, 1979, in Bessemer, Alabama. He is a graduate of Florida State University and New York University, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree. Holland is known for his versatility in both film and television, often portraying complex and compelling characters.He is widely recognized for his role as Kevin in the Academy Award-winning film Moonlight (2016), for which he received numerous accolades as part of the ensemble cast. He also gained acclaim for his work on television, including his role as Dr. Algernon Edwards in the Cinemax series The Knick (2014-2015) and as Henry Deaver in the Hulu series Castle Rock (2018).Holland has also played significant historical figures, portraying sportswriter Wendell Smith in 42 (2013) and civil rights activist Andrew Young in Selma (2014), for which he was nominated for an NAACP Image Award. In 2025, he starred in and produced the drama film Love, Brooklyn. His upcoming roles include the films The Actor and The Dutchman.
