Andrew Scott Rannells, born on August 23, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska, is an accomplished American actor and singer. His early exposure to theater came through classes at the Emmy Gifford Children's Theater and performances at the Omaha Community Playhouse and Firehouse Dinner Theatre. Rannells' professional acting career began in his teenage years with voice acting roles in animated series such as Street Sharks and Archie's Weird Mysteries. While pursuing theater, he continued voice work in various projects, including the Pokémon anime. His Broadway debut came in 2005 as a replacement in Hairspray. He later gained significant recognition for originating the role of Elder Price in the hit musical The Book of Mormon (2011), which earned him a Tony Award nomination and a Grammy Award for the cast recording. Other notable Broadway credits include Jersey Boys, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hamilton as King George III, Falsettos (another Tony nomination), The Boys in the Band, and Gutenberg! The Musical!. Beyond theater, Rannells has had a successful television career, notably as Elijah Krantz in the HBO series Girls, for which he received a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination. He also starred in NBC's The New Normal and had recurring roles in How I Met Your Mother and The Knick. His film work includes The Intern, A Simple Favor, and The Prom. In 2022, he made his London stage debut in Tammy Faye, earning an Olivier Award nomination.
