Angelo Pellegrino

Angelo Pellegrino (born August 2, 1946, in Palermo, Sicily) is a veteran Italian actor, writer, and translator with a multifaceted career in film, theatre, television, and literature. He has appeared in around 60 films, often excelling in character roles across genres, from comedy (Fantozzi Against the Wind, 1980) to historical epics (1900, 1976) . Pellegrino is perhaps best recognized internationally for his small but memorable role as the Fascist political secretary in Giuseppe Tornatore’s Malèna (2000). Alongside his acting, Pellegrino has contributed to theatre—particularly avant-garde works—and serves as a cultural bridge as a translator of classical texts, having translated Epicurus's Letter on Happiness, Horace, and Martial into Italian . His literary endeavors also include poetry, memoirs, and essays—such as In Transiberiana and Piombo felicissimo—and he has championed the legacy of his late wife, writer Goliarda Sapienza, publishing her novel The Art of Joy and editing posthumous works. His career spans intimate dramas and broad comedies, and he remains active in both artistic performance and literary circles in Italy. Pellegrino’s rich cultural contributions highlight a career defined by versatility and depth, rooted in his Sicilian identity and his passion for storytelling in many forms.
