Raised in Barranquilla, Cepeda initially pursued a degree in communication before discovering her passion for acting. She relocated to Bogotá, where she began formal drama training and started her career as a model. Her acting debut occurred in the early 1990s with roles in Colombian telenovelas such as La Maldición del Paraíso and Candela. Her breakthrough came with the lead role in Las Juanas (1997), followed by notable performances in Luz María (1998) and Pobre Diabla (2000). Cepeda's film career includes significant roles in Pantaleón y las Visitadoras (2000), Love in the Time of Cholera (2007), and A Night in Old Mexico (2013), where she starred alongside Robert Duvall. In 2021, she voiced Julieta Madrigal in Disney's animated film Encanto, contributing to its global success.
