She trained at the East 15 Acting School and has been active in the industry since the 1970s.Badland is well-known for her notable television roles, including Margaret Blaine in the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who, Mrs. Glenna Fitzgibbons in Outlander, and the villainous Babe Smith in the soap opera EastEnders. She is also recognized for her recurring role as Dr. Fleur Perkins in the ITV mystery series Midsomer Murders, and for her role as Mae in the Emmy Award-winning Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso.Her film work includes appearances in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and The Toxic Avenger (2023). She has an extensive stage career, having performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and at Shakespeare's Globe. Beyond acting, Badland is an ambassador for the charity Target Ovarian Cancer.
