Anthony Wong Chau-Sang (born Anthony William Perry on September 2, 1961) is a renowned Hong Kong actor, director, and singer, celebrated for his intense and versatile portrayals, often of amoral or villainous characters. Born to a Hong Kong Chinese mother and an English father, he grew up in Hong Kong, experiencing hardship and racism during his youth due to his mixed ethnicity, which he has stated initially led to him being typecast as a villain in the film industry. He received his acting training at Asia Television's program and The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. Over his career, which began in 1985, he has appeared in over 200 films and numerous television dramas. Among his most notable film roles are the Triad gangster Johnny Wong in Hard Boiled (1992) and Superintendent Wong Chi-shing in the critically acclaimed Infernal Affairs trilogy (2002–2003). Wong has earned significant accolades, winning the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor three times for The Untold Story (1993), Beast Cops (1998), and Still Human (2018), and the Golden Horse Award for Best Actor for The Sunny Side of the Street (2022). He is also recognized as the first Hong Kong actor to win Best Actor awards in film, stage theatre, and TV. In addition to acting, he has directed films such as New Tenant (1995) and is also a singer, particularly associated with punk/New Wave music.
