Anu Valia

Anu Valia is an American film and television director, writer, and producer. Born to a Sikh family in Indiana, she grew up in the greater Chicago area and later attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. She began her career working at CollegeHumor, where she directed and produced comedic videos and occasionally acted.Valia is known for her award-winning short films. Her short film Lucia, Before and After (2017) won the Short Film Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival, which helped launch her career in television directing. She has since directed episodes for a wide range of popular shows, including She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, The Afterparty, Never Have I Ever, Shrinking, and And Just Like That.... She also directed the pilot for the Apple TV+ series The Big Door Prize.In 2025, Valia made her feature film directorial debut with We Strangers, a drama that she also wrote. The film premiered at the South by Southwest film festival and was supported by organizations such as the Sundance Institute and Cinereach. Valia's work often explores complex themes with a unique blend of humor and drama, and she is recognized as a rising talent in the industry.
