Anushka Shetty (born Sweety Shetty on November 7, 1981, in Mangalore, Karnataka) is a highly celebrated and influential Indian actress known predominantly for her work in Telugu and Tamil cinema, often hailed as the "Lady Superstar" of Tollywood. Trained as a yoga instructor under Bharat Thakur, she made her acting debut in the 2005 Telugu film Super. Her career took a significant turn with S. S. Rajamouli's 2006 hit Vikramarkudu, but it was her iconic performance in the 2009 dark fantasy film Arundhati (where she played dual roles) that proved her ability to carry an entire film and earned her both the Filmfare and Nandi Awards for Best Actress. Throughout the 2010s, Anushka cemented her status by starring in major commercial films like the Singam franchise and delivering powerful, woman-centric historical dramas such as Rudhramadevi (2015), where she played the titular warrior queen of the Kakatiya dynasty. Her global fame was sealed with her unforgettable portrayal of the fierce, unyielding warrior princess and later imprisoned queen, Devasena, in the pan-Indian epic sagas Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), a role that showcased her grace, tenacity, and immense screen presence. Despite persistent rumors about her marriage, especially with her Baahubali co-star Prabhas, Anushka Shetty is currently unmarried and focuses on choosing selective, quality scripts, with recent releases including Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty (2023) and the 2025 Telugu film Ghaati, and her upcoming Malayalam debut, Kathanar: The Wild Sorcerer.
