Her career in modeling began at a young age, and she quickly gained recognition in the industry. She first rose to national prominence when she was crowned Señorita Colombia 2014, representing the department of Sucre, a historic win as she was the first representative from Sucre to achieve this title.Her international recognition soared during the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. In a highly publicized and unprecedented gaffe by host Steve Harvey, Gutiérrez was mistakenly announced as the winner, and was crowned and celebrated for several minutes.
