Babyface

Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds is a legendary American singer-songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur whose profound influence on R&B and pop music spans over four decades. Born in Indianapolis in 1959, he earned his famous nickname from funk legend Bootsy Collins. Edmonds began his career playing with the funk band Manchild and later gained recognition as a member of the R&B group The Deele in the 1980s, alongside his future creative and business partner, Antonio "L.A." Reid. The duo left The Deele to form the powerhouse record label LaFace Records in 1989, which was instrumental in launching the careers of superstars like Usher, Toni Braxton, TLC, and OutKast. As a songwriter and producer, Babyface is one of the most prolific in history, having written or co-written over 200 Top 10 R&B hits and more than 50 Top 10 pop hits, including massive smashes like Boyz II Men's "End of the Road" and "I'll Make Love to You," Madonna's "Take a Bow," Eric Clapton's "Change the World," and Whitney Houston's "Exhale (Shoop Shoop)."As a solo artist, his signature smooth vocals and romantic ballads defined the sound of 90s R&B, leading to multi-platinum success with albums like TenderLover (1989), featuring "Whip Appeal," and FortheCoolinYou (1993), which included the Grammy-winning hit "When Can I See You." Babyface is an 13-time Grammy Award winner, including three consecutive wins for Producer of the Year (1995-1997), and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2017, solidifying his status as one of music's most successful and enduring figures.
