Sebastiaan "Bas" Rutten, born on February 24, 1965, is a Dutch-American actor, retired mixed martial artist (MMA) and kickboxer, and professional wrestler. Known by the nickname "El Guapo" (The Handsome One), he is a UFC Hall of Fame legend and a pioneer of the sport. As a professional fighter, he was a UFC Heavyweight Champion and a three-time King of Pancrase World Champion. He retired from fighting with a remarkable 22-fight unbeaten streak. Rutten is particularly known for his devastating "liver shots" (punches and kicks to the liver), a technique he popularized in MMA.After retiring from professional fighting in 1999, Rutten transitioned to the entertainment industry, becoming a successful actor, commentator, and trainer. He co-starred in the 2012 film Here Comes the Boom with Kevin James, and has appeared in numerous other television shows, movies, and video games. Rutten is also the owner of the MMA gym Bas Rutten's Elite Mixed Martial Arts. His legacy as a fighter and his charismatic presence in media have made him a beloved figure in the combat sports world. He is also part of the cast of the 2025 film The Smashing Machine, playing the role of himself.
