Ben Immanuel is a Canadian actor, film director, screenwriter, producer, and acting coach, who was previously credited professionally as Benjamin Ratner or Ben Ratner until 2021 when he adopted his middle name, Immanuel, to avoid confusion with the American director Brett Ratner. A prolific artist, he is a recipient of over a dozen awards, including the 2013 UBCP/ACTRA John Juliani Award for Outstanding Achievement. As an actor, he has amassed over 100 film and television credits, with lead roles in feature films that have played at prestigious festivals such as TIFF and Sundance. He won the Vancouver Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actor in a Canadian Film for Last Wedding (2001) and Best Supporting Actor in a Canadian Film for Looking for Leonard (2002), and has had regular roles on television in series such as Da Vinci's City Hall and Travelers. As a filmmaker, he has written and directed two award-winning, theatrically released feature films: Down River (2013), which won the Audience Award for Most Popular Canadian Film at the VIFF, and Moving Malcolm (2003). He also released his most recent feature film, Are We Done Now?, in 2025. In addition to his creative work, Immanuel is the founder and director of the Haven Acting Studio in Vancouver, which he established in 2002, where he has taught and mentored actors for over 20 years.
