Billy Boyd is a highly recognizable Scottish actor and musician, born on August 28, 1968, in Glasgow, Scotland. He is best known globally for his iconic role as Peregrin "Pippin" Took in Peter Jackson's epic The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001-2003). Before pursuing acting, Boyd worked as a bookbinder for six years, coincidentally even binding copies of The Lord of the Rings during that time. He later graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.Beyond Middle-earth, Boyd has appeared in a diverse range of films including Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003) as Barret Bonden, Seed of Chucky (2004) as the voice of Glen/Glenda, and more recently, "Warlord" (2025) where he portrays the tyrannical Sheriff. His television work includes roles in Taggart, Still Game, and a recurring voice role in the Chucky TV series.As a musician, Boyd is the lead singer and co-songwriter for the band Beecake, which has released several albums. He also famously wrote and performed the song "The Edge of Night" for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and "The Last Goodbye" for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. His acting has been recognized with multiple ensemble awards, including the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
