Billy Crudup is a highly respected and versatile American actor renowned for his magnetic presence on both the screen and the stage. Born on July 8, 1968, in Manhasset, New York, Crudup studied acting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned an M.F.A. from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. He established his career first in the theater, making his Broadway debut in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia (1995) and going on to win a Tony Award in 2007 for The Coast of Utopia, alongside three other Tony nominations. On screen, he is widely recognized for his portrayal of the charismatic, conflicted guitarist Russell Hammond in Cameron Crowe's classic film Almost Famous (2000), Will Bloom in Tim Burton's Big Fish (2003), and the powerful, distant superhero Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen (2009). More recently, Crudup has achieved significant acclaim and wider recognition for his role as the slick, scheming network executive Cory Ellison in the Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show, a performance that has earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (2020 and 2024) and two Critics' Choice Television Awards. His diverse filmography also includes roles in Academy Award-winning films like Spotlight (2015), as well as Sleepers (1996), Without Limits (1998), and the 2025 Noah Baumbach film Jay Kelly.
