Brenda Vaccaro (born November 18, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York) is a distinguished American actress whose career spans over six decades across stage, film, and television. Raised in Dallas, Texas, she studied acting at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City under Sanford Meisner. She made her Broadway debut in 1961 with Everybody Loves Opal, earning a Theatre World Award for her performance. Vaccaro's film career took off with her role in the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy, which led to a Golden Globe nomination. In 1975, she received an Academy Award nomination and won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Once Is Not Enough. Her other notable film credits include Capricorn One (1977), Supergirl (1984), Heart of Midnight (1988), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019). On television, Vaccaro has had a prolific presence, with roles in series such as The Streets of San Francisco, Sara, Paper Dolls, and The Smurfs, where she voiced various characters. She earned a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance in the television special The Shape of Things (1973) and was nominated for an Emmy for her role in Sara (1976). More recently, she appeared in You Don't Know Jack (2010) and And Just Like That... (2021).
