Brett Jordan Dier is a Canadian actor born on February 14, 1990, in London, Ontario. He demonstrated an early aptitude for performance, learning piano (reaching Grade 6 Conservatory Music, including the Suzuki method from age four) and guitar, as well as studying improv and earning a first-degree black belt in Taekwondo. He also enjoys breakdancing, swimming, and bouldering.Dier began his professional acting career at 15, with his debut role as Matt Peterson in the 2006 TV movie Family in Hiding. He quickly built a diverse filmography with supporting roles in movies like Battle in Seattle (2007) and Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2011), and guest appearances on TV shows such as Smallville and Flashpoint. He gained recurring roles in Canadian series like Mr. Young (2011–2013) and The L.A. Complex (2012), and a lead role as Luke Matheson in the Pretty Little Liars spinoff Ravenswood (2013–2014).His breakthrough came with his series regular role as Detective Michael Cordero Jr. in The CW's critically acclaimed comedy-drama Jane the Virgin (2014–2019), a role for which he received widespread recognition. Following Jane the Virgin, he starred as "C.B." on the ABC sitcom Schooled (2019–2020). More recently, he has appeared in films such as After Yang (2021), Fresh (2022), About My Father (2023) alongside Robert De Niro, and Scrambled (2024).
