Brett Goldstein

Brett Goldstein is an English actor, comedian, writer, producer, and podcaster, best known for his Primetime Emmy Award-winning role as the famously gruff footballer Roy Kent in the Apple TV+ comedy series Ted Lasso (2020–2023). Born in 1980 in London, Goldstein was educated at Sevenoaks School and graduated from the University of Warwick with a degree in Film Studies. He began his career in stand-up comedy and writing, having penned and performed four solo shows and worked on various TV projects. His major career breakthrough came with Ted Lasso. Initially hired as a writer for the series, Goldstein felt a deep connection to the character of Roy Kent and submitted a self-taped audition, which secured him the role. His performance earned him the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for the first two consecutive seasons (2021 and 2022). Beyond acting in the show, he was also a writer and executive producer. Goldstein's writing and producing credits are extensive and include co-creating the AMC limited anthology series Soulmates (2020) with Will Bridges. He also co-created, wrote, and executive produced the Apple TV+ comedy series Shrinking (2023–present), in which he also stars as the therapist Louis. His other notable acting roles include Tom in the Ricky Gervais series Derek (2012–2014) and a surprise cameo as the Marvel Cinematic Universe character Hercules in the film Thor: Love and Thunder (2022). Since 2018, he has hosted the popular podcast Films To Be Buried With.
