Brian Kirk

Brian Kirk is an award-winning Irish film and television director and producer from Northern Ireland, widely respected for his compelling and high-quality work on prestige television dramas. He is celebrated for directing episodes of several critically acclaimed series, including three episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones, an episode of Martin Scorsese's Boardwalk Empire, the pilot and a second episode of BBC's Luther starring Idris Elba, and episodes of Dexter, The Tudors, and Penny Dreadful.In addition to his episodic work, Kirk directed the entire BBC mini-series adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations (2011) and the acclaimed television film My Boy Jack (2007), starring Daniel Radcliffe and based on the play about Rudyard Kipling's son. His feature film directorial debut was Middletown (2006), and he later directed the successful crime thriller 21 Bridges (2019), starring Chadwick Boseman. More recently, he has been involved as a director and executive producer on the 2024 series The Day of the Jackal and the 2023 series Citadel. Kirk has been nominated for several awards, including Irish Film & Television Awards (IFTA) for Best Director and Breakthrough Talent, and he was part of the Game of Thrones team that won the Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
