Byron Howard
Byron Patrick Howard (born December 26, 1968, in Misawa, Japan) is an American animator, director, and screenwriter renowned for his work at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Raised in Issaquah, Washington, Howard developed a passion for animation early on, inspired by Disney classics and artists like Chuck Jones and Bill Watterson. He pursued his interests at The Evergreen State College, studying cinematography, art, and literature. In 1991, he joined Disney as a tour guide at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando. By 1994, Howard had secured a position as an inbetweener and clean-up artist on Pocahontas, marking the beginning of his career at Disney. He contributed as an animator to Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, and Brother Bear, earning an Annie Award nomination for his work on Brother Bear. Howard made his directorial debut with Bolt (2008), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. He co-directed Tangled (2010), Zootopia (2016), and Encanto (2021), with the latter two winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Howard's upcoming project is Zootopia 2 (2025), continuing his collaboration with Disney Animation Studios.
