Carrie Fisher (1956–2016) was an American actress, writer, and advocate, best known for her iconic role as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars franchise. Born on October 21, 1956, in Los Angeles, California, she was the daughter of actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher. Fisher made her film debut at the age of 18 in Shampoo (1975), but it was her portrayal of Leia in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) that catapulted her to international fame. Beyond acting, Fisher was a prolific writer and script doctor. She authored several semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge (1987), which was later adapted into a film, and The Princess Diarist (2016), which detailed her experiences during the making of the original Star Wars trilogy. Fisher also worked as a script doctor, contributing to the scripts of films like Sister Act and Lethal Weapon 3. Fisher was open about her struggles with mental health, addiction, and bipolar disorder, using her experiences to advocate for mental health awareness. She passed away on December 27, 2016, at the age of 60, after suffering a cardiac arrest during a flight from London to Los Angeles. A coroner's report later attributed her death to sleep apnea, heart disease, and drug use . Her legacy continues through her daughter, Billie Lourd, who has honored her mother's memory and contributions to the entertainment industry. In 2023, Fisher was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, recognizing her enduring impact on film and culture .
