Cedric the Entertainer

Cedric Antonio Kyles, professionally known as Cedric the Entertainer, is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and television host, born on April 24, 1964, in Jefferson City, Missouri. He studied Mass Communication at Southeast Missouri State University and, prior to becoming a full-time comedian, worked as a State Farm Insurance claims adjuster and a substitute high school teacher. His rise to fame began in the 1990s as the host of BET's ComicView (1993–1994) and an appearance on Def Comedy Jam. He achieved mainstream recognition as one of the four comedians featured in the successful The Original Kings of Comedy stand-up tour, which was later turned into a 2000 film directed by Spike Lee. His notable acting career includes his long-running role as Cedric Jackie Robinson on the sitcom The Steve Harvey Show, for which he won four consecutive NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. On the big screen, he is known for playing Eddie in the Barbershop film franchise, Nate Johnson in Johnson Family Vacation, and for voicing Maurice the aye-aye in the Madagascar animated film series. He also had a brief run as the host of the syndicated game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. More recently, he has starred in and executive produced the CBS hit comedy The Neighborhood. In 2008, he was inducted into the St. Louis Walk of Fame, and through his Cedric the Entertainer Charitable Foundation, Inc., he provides scholarships to high school graduates.
