Charlbi Dean

Charlbi Dean (born Charlbi Dean Kriek) was a South African actress and model. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, on February 5, 1990, she began modeling at the age of six and was homeschooled from the age of 14 to pursue her career. She survived a serious car crash in 2008 that resulted in a collapsed lung, the removal of her spleen, and other injuries. Two years later, she made her film debut in the South African comedy film Spud and reprised her role in the 2013 sequel, Spud 2: The Madness Continues. She went on to appear in several other films, including An Interview with God (2018), and had a recurring role as the villainous assassin Syonide in the CW series Black Lightning. Dean's career reached international acclaim with her leading role as the model Yaya in Ruben Östlund's 2022 Palme d'Or-winning film, Triangle of Sadness. She died suddenly on August 29, 2022, at the age of 32 from bacterial sepsis.
