Walter Charles Dance OBE (born 10 October 1946) is a renowned English actor, screenwriter, and director, highly recognized for his commanding screen presence and often portraying intimidating, aristocratic, and villainous characters. He began his distinguished career on stage as a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in the mid-1970s, before achieving his breakout role as Guy Perron in the 1984 miniseries The Jewel in the Crown. Dance's extensive filmography includes roles in blockbusters and critically acclaimed dramas such as the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only, Alien 3, Last Action Hero, The Imitation Game, and David Fincher's Mank. He gained global fame for his iconic portrayal of the ruthless patriarch Tywin Lannister in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2011–2015), and later played Lord Mountbatten in seasons three and four of The Crown. Beyond acting, he wrote and directed the 2004 film Ladies in Lavender. For his services to drama, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2006.
