Charlie Thomas Cox (born December 15, 1982) is an English actor who has achieved international recognition for his versatility in film, television, and theatre. Born in London and raised in East Sussex, he is the youngest of five children to publisher Andrew Frederick Seaforth Cox and Patricia C. A. Harley Cox. He trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, which set him on a path to a professional career that began in the early 2000s. Cox gained his initial major international notice with the lead role of Tristan Thorn in the fantasy adventure film Stardust (2007). He followed this up with acclaimed work on television, including playing the Irish enforcer Owen Sleater in the HBO crime drama series Boardwalk Empire (2011–2012) and a role in the Academy Award-nominated film The Theory of Everything (2014). Cox's career-defining role came when he was cast as the blind lawyer and vigilante Matt Murdock / Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with the Netflix series Daredevil (2015–2018), and reprising the role in various projects, including Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again (2025–present). He has also starred in the RTÉ drama series Kin and the Netflix spy miniseries Treason.
