Cheech Marin

Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin, born on July 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, is a highly recognizable and influential American comedian, actor, writer, director, musician, and art collector. He is best known as one half of the iconic comedy duo Cheech & Chong, alongside Tommy Chong. Their irreverent, satirical, and often stoner-themed humor gained immense popularity in the 1970s and early 1980s through hit comedy albums and films like "Up in Smoke" (1978), which became a cult classic.Beyond his work with Cheech & Chong, Marin has established a successful and diverse acting career. He played Inspector Joe Dominguez, Don Johnson's partner, in the long-running television series "Nash Bridges" (1996-2001). His film credits are extensive and include "Born in East L.A." (which he also directed and wrote), "Tin Cup," "From Dusk Till Dawn," "Spy Kids" trilogy, "Machete," and more recently, "Shotgun Wedding" (2023) and "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip" (2025), where he plays Gil. Marin is also a prolific voice actor, lending his distinctive voice to beloved animated characters such as Banzai the Hyena in "The Lion King," Ramone in the "Cars" franchise, and characters in "Oliver & Company" and "Coco."In addition to his entertainment career, Cheech Marin is a prominent advocate and collector of Chicano art. He has amassed one of the finest private collections of Chicano art, and his efforts culminated in the opening of The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art and Culture, affectionately known as "The Cheech," in Riverside, California, in 2022. This museum is dedicated to showcasing and preserving Chicano art, reflecting Marin's deep commitment to promoting Mexican-American culture and artistic expression.
