Chetan

Chetan Kadambi (born September 30, 1970) is a veteran Indian actor primarily known for his impactful roles in Tamil television and cinema. Born in Bangalore, he began his professional journey as an assistant director under filmmaker S. Shankar before pivoting to acting. He rose to immense fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s through the small screen, becoming a household name with his performances in cult-favorite serials such as Marmadesam (where he played the protagonist Rajendran/Karuppusami in the Vidathu Karuppu segment) and the long-running Sun TV hit Metti Oli. Despite a career spanning nearly three decades, he transitioned successfully to the big screen, often appearing in character-driven roles in major films like Polladhavan (2007), Kaithi (2019), and Master (2021). His most recent career-defining performance came in Vetri Maaran’s Viduthalai Part 1 (2023) and Part 2 (2024), where he portrayed the ruthless and egoistic police officer V. Ragavendar, a role that earned him significant critical acclaim for its menacing intensity. In his personal life, Chetan is married to the popular Tamil actress and comedian Devadarshini. The couple famously met while acting together in the Marmadesam series and married in 2002; they are widely considered one of the most beloved power couples in the Tamil television industry. They have a daughter, Niyathi Kadambi, who made her acting debut playing the younger version of her mother’s character in the 2018 blockbuster '96. Now firmly focused on cinematic ventures after intentionally stepping back from television, Chetan continues to be a sought-after performer for complex, grey-shaded characters in modern Tamil cinema.
