Cheung Tat-Ming

Cheung Tat‑ming (張達明), born on 2 July 1964 in Hong Kong, is a multifaceted figure in Hong Kong's entertainment scene—celebrated as an actor, comedian, playwright, director, and screenwriter. He began his career in 1989 with roles in films such as My Heart Is That Eternal Rose and gained early recognition for performances in numerous comedies during the 1990s, including notable appearances in Forbidden City Cop (1996), Lawyer Lawyer (1997), and Big Bullet (1996). In 2011, at the height of his career, Cheung was diagnosed with stage‑3 nasopharyngeal cancer, which led to a nine‑year battle involving chemotherapy and radiation. The treatments caused significant side effects—including drastic weight loss, nerve damage resulting in numbness and muscle atrophy in his legs, and heavy metal poisoning from platinum accumulation. Despite the physical and emotional toll—including a divorce in 2016—he remained resilient, drawing support from friends like Chow Yun Fat and Francis Ng, regaining the ability to walk and even run again. Following recovery, Cheung achieved a remarkable comeback: he co-wrote and produced theatre pieces, appeared in films such as A Home with a View (2019), and delivered an acclaimed performance in I’m Livin’ It (2019), which earned him the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2020 . Today, he continues to write, act, and inspire, known for his optimism, creative spirit, and enduring presence in the arts.
