Christopher Jerell Redd (born March 25, 1985) is an Emmy Award-winning American comedian, actor, writer, and rapper known for his energetic and versatile work in stand-up and sketch comedy. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, and raised in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Redd overcame a childhood stutter by learning to rap, ultimately transitioning his performance skills to comedy. He trained in improvisational theater at The Second City in Chicago, which propelled him into his television career. He is best known for being a repertory player on Saturday Night Live for five seasons (2017–2022), where he gained acclaim for his impressions of figures like Kanye West and Senator Cory Booker. For his work on the show, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics in 2018 for co-writing the song "Come Back Barack." Beyond SNL, Redd starred opposite Kenan Thompson in the NBC sitcom Kenan (2021–2022) and was a co-creator, executive producer, and star of the Peacock comedy series Bust Down (2022). His film credits include the mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016), Joker (2019), and Candy Cane Lane (2023). He released his first stand-up comedy album, But Here We Are, in 2019, followed by his acclaimed HBO Max special, Why Am I Like This? in 2022. He is also set to appear in the upcoming romantic comedy film Merv (2025).
