Christopher E. Fairbank (born October 4, 1953) is an acclaimed English film, stage, and television actor renowned for his versatility and distinctive character roles across five decades. Born in Hertfordshire and growing up in Essex, Fairbank had a tumultuous early life, which included a period at a Liverpool hostel in his late teens before he successfully trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 1974. His career-defining role came in 1983 as the stuttering, lovable Liverpudlian plasterer Albert Arthur "Moxey" Moxey in the hit comedy-drama series Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, a character he reprised in its revivals in 2002 and 2004. Fairbank has a prolific international filmography, featuring memorable supporting roles in major franchises and acclaimed independent films, including Nic, the mugger interrogated by the title character in Batman (1989); the prisoner Thomas Murphy in Alien³ (1992); the scientist Mactilburgh in The Fifth Element (1997); a pirate, Ezekiel, in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011); and The Broker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014 and Vol. 3 in 2023). On television, he has appeared in numerous British staples like Coronation Street, Doctor Who, Father Brown, and played Ulaf in the Star Wars series Andor (2022) and the controversial character Eddie Knight in EastEnders (2024). He has also done extensive voice work for animation, notably the Aardman films Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Flushed Away, and has a deep resume in theatre.
