Christopher McCombs is an American actor, writer, director, and producer, known for his significant contributions to the Japanese independent film and television scene. He is particularly recognized for creating and starring in the Amazon Prime Video comedy series "The Benza" (2019) and its spin-off "Benza English" (2020), where he plays the lead character, Chris.His creative work often draws inspiration from his extensive experience of living in Japan, which spans over fifteen years. This personal insight is evident in his screenplay for the 2025 Japanese drama and romance film "Aichaku," where he also stars as the main character, Lucas, an American teacher. McCombs also directed episodes of the travel documentary series "Getting Dirty in Japan."Beyond his writing and acting roles, McCombs is a co-founder of the Tokyo-based production company Tokyo Cowboys. He has received several accolades for his work, including a Best Actor award from the Seoul Webfest for his performance in "The Benza."
