Jacoba Francisca Maria "Cobie" Smulders is a Canadian-American actress, born on April 3, 1982, in Vancouver, British Columbia, to a Dutch father and a British mother. She pursued modeling as a teenager before transitioning to acting, making her professional debut in 2002. Smulders gained widespread fame for her starring role as the television reporter Robin Scherbatsky on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which ran for nine seasons from 2005 to 2014. Concurrently, she gained further recognition for her recurring role as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with The Avengers in 2012 and reprising the character in multiple subsequent films and the television miniseries Secret Invasion (2023). Other notable television roles include Lisa Turner in the Netflix series Friends from College (2017–2019), Dex Parios in the ABC drama Stumptown (2019–2020), and portraying Ann Coulter in Impeachment: American Crime Story (2021). Her film credits also include Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) and voicing Wonder Woman in The Lego Movie (2014) and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019). Smulders is married to actor Taran Killam, whom she wed in 2012, and they have two daughters. She became a U.S. citizen in 2020.
