Constantine Markoulakis
Constantine Markoulakis is a highly distinguished Greek actor and director whose career has spanned over three decades across theater, film, and television. Born on July 24, 1970, in Athens, he graduated from the prestigious Athens College and the Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece in 1991. He quickly rose to fame in the mid-1990s as a leading man in successful Greek television series such as Logo Timis and I Zoi pou den Ezisa, eventually becoming a household name. His versatility is evident in his transition from popular television to heavyweight stage performances, having played iconic roles like Hamlet and Oedipus at the historic Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. In 2007, he founded the Coyot theatre company, and since 2012, he has become one of Greece's most prolific stage directors, helming acclaimed productions of The Pillowman, The Cherry Orchard, and August: Osage County. In the world of cinema, Markoulakis has balanced local hits like Rizoto (2000) and Success Story (2017) with notable international collaborations, including Costa-Gavras’s Eden Is West (2009). In the 2026 drama I Was a Stranger, he delivers a poignant performance as Stavros, a Greek coast guard captain who finds himself at the emotional and moral center of the Mediterranean refugee crisis. Outside of his acting work, he has been a prominent figure in Greek public life, having hosted the Greek version of Survivor in 2006 and the 2023 reality series The Traitors Greece, and he has also been active in politics as a candidate for the liberal party Drassi. He is the father of one son, Giorgos Ikaros, and continues to be a leading force in contemporary Greek culture, currently starring in the medical drama series The Doctor.
