Craig T. Nelson, born Craig Theodore Nelson on April 4, 1944, in Spokane, Washington, is a highly recognizable American actor and comedian with a career spanning over five decades. After attending Central Washington University and the University of Arizona, Nelson moved to Hollywood in 1969 to pursue acting. He initially started in comedy, becoming an early member of the improv and sketch comedy troupe The Groundlings and performing stand-up alongside future director Barry Levinson.Nelson gained widespread recognition for his starring role as Hayden Fox, the beloved college football coach, in the ABC sitcom Coach (1989-1997), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Prior to Coach, he had already established himself in film with memorable roles such as Deputy Warden Ward Wilson in Stir Crazy (1980) and, notably, Steve Freeling in the classic horror film Poltergeist (1982), a role he reprised in its 1986 sequel.His versatile career has seen him take on a variety of roles across genres. He starred as Police Chief Jack Mannion in the CBS drama series The District (2000-2004) and played the patriarch Zeek Braverman in the acclaimed family drama Parenthood (2010-2015). Nelson is also celebrated for his distinctive voice work, most famously as the powerful and earnest superhero Bob Parr, also known as Mr. Incredible, in Pixar's The Incredibles (2004) and its equally successful sequel Incredibles 2 (2018). Other significant film appearances include Silkwood (1983), The Killing Fields (1984), The Devil's Advocate (1997), The Family Stone (2005), The Proposal (2009), and Book Club (2018).
