Dacre Montgomery

Dacre Montgomery (born November 22, 1994) is an Australian actor who became a household name for his electrifying portrayal of the volatile Billy Hargrove in the Netflix phenomenon Stranger Things (2017–2022). Born in Perth to parents who both worked in the screen industry, Montgomery began performing at age nine and later graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2015. His early career featured a mix of music videos and short films before he landed the role of Jason Scott, the Red Ranger, in the 2017 Power Rangers reboot. He has since been praised for his transformative character work, including his performance as Steve Binder in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis (2022) and his voice work for the podcast poetry series DKMH. In the 2025/2026 thriller Dead Man’s Wire, Montgomery delivers a career-defining performance as Richard "Dick" Hall, a mortgage broker who is taken hostage for 63 hours by a disgruntled developer (Bill Skarsgård). Playing the son of a powerful executive (portrayed by Al Pacino), Montgomery’s performance has been lauded for its emotional range, shifting from cowering terror to a reluctant, complex sympathy for his captor. To prepare for the film, Montgomery reportedly spent a month in a room with Skarsgård while physically connected by a prop wire to mimic the tension of the real-life 1977 Indianapolis hostage crisis.
