Dan Levy
Dan Levy (born August 9, 1983, in Toronto, Canada) is a multi‑talented actor, writer, director, and producer who rose to international prominence with the critically acclaimed sitcom Schitt’s Creek (2015–2020), which he co‑created and starred in alongside his father, Eugene Levy . After studying film at York and Ryerson universities, he began his career on MTV Canada as a host and producer before transitioning into scripted roles. Schitt’s Creek was a breakout success, with Levy earning Emmys for acting, writing, producing, and directing in its final season, and the series making history by sweeping all four major comedy acting categories. Beyond the show, Dan has been a powerful advocate for LGBTQ+ representation, openly embracing his identity as a gay man and crafting authentic storylines—like David Rose’s pansexuality and open displays of affection—that resonated globally. He’s also a vocal activist, supporting causes like Indigenous education, mental health awareness, and queer visibility, and has spoken out against homophobic language in media . In his post-Schitt’s Creek career, Levy has continued acting, notably in the film Happiest Season (2020), written and directed the drama Good Grief (2023), and signed an overall deal with ABC to develop future TV projects. In 2025, he joined the ensemble voice cast of the new Smurfs musical reboot, cementing his place as a versatile creator and performer in both live‑action and voice work. Dan splits his time between Toronto and Los Angeles, and continues to build a reputation for thoughtful, emotionally honest storytelling, as well as leading with empathy and authenticity in his creative endeavors.
