Danielle Macdonald is an Australian actress, born in Sydney in 1991, who moved to Los Angeles at the age of 18 to pursue her acting career after attending the Australian Institute for Performing Arts. After landing small roles in television series like Glee and Pretty Little Liars, she made her feature film debut in The East (2013) and later gained recognition for her role as Alice Manning in the 2014 crime film Every Secret Thing. Her true breakthrough came with her first leading role as an aspiring rapper in the 2017 drama Patti Cake$, which earned her critical praise at the Sundance Film Festival. She solidified her reputation as a versatile actress with subsequent prominent roles, including the title character Willowdean Dickson in the Netflix film Dumplin' (2018) opposite Jennifer Aniston, Olympia in the post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box (2018), and the main role of Amber in the critically acclaimed Netflix miniseries Unbelievable (2019). Most recently, Macdonald starred as Probationary Constable Helen Chambers in the BBC One/Stan/HBO Max thriller series The Tourist (2022–2024), and is set to appear in the 2025 films If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and The Last Anniversary.
