His career in the entertainment industry began at the age of 17 when he landed the lead role of Brian Potter in the CBC drama Northwood. Since then, he has become a familiar face in Canadian television, with series regular roles in shows like The Rez and Open Heart, and as the host of Bingo and a Movie.Beyond acting, Dennis is a prolific writer. His short stories have been published across Canada and the U.S., and his first play, "Trickster of Third Avenue East," was produced by Native Earth Performing Arts, where he was twice named their "Writer-in-Residence." His semi-autobiographical one-man play, "Tales of an Urban Indian," which explores themes of growing up as an Indigenous First Nations person, was nominated for two Dora Awards and has toured extensively across North America. The feature film adaptation of "Tales" was also selected for the prestigious Sundance Screenwriters Lab. He was the head comedy writer for the APTN talk/variety show "Buffalo Tracks" and co-wrote and hosted the award-winning CBC Radio program Revision Quest. As a comedian, Dennis is an alumnus of the Second City National Touring Company, making history as the first Indigenous cast member hired by any Second City company. Darrell Dennis also has a growing list of film credits, including the 2022 film Fall where he played the character Randy, and The Great Salish Heist (2024). He continues to be a vocal advocate for authentic Indigenous storytelling in media and is actively involved in writing and directing new projects, aiming to move beyond stereotypical "leather and feather" roles.
